David Erdal

Matt Black meets David Erdal, a pioneer of the employee-owned business movement and author of Beyond the Corporation: Humanity Working.

Tomorrow, on 7 March, another big business will announce its employees' bonus payments for the fiscal year. Unlike the banker bonuses, however, this announcement is unlikely to raise public outcry. The John Lewis Partnership, which is entirely owned by its employees, will announce bonus payments to its employees predicted to be around 12% of their salaries.

David Erdal is one of the UK's leading advocates for wider adoption of employee-owned business. In the first part of the interview Erdal explained why employee-owned business works; here, he explains why so few of these businesses exist, arguing that a mix of greed and fear is holding the movement back.

David Erdal is non-executive director of Baxi Partnership and Author of Beyond the Corporation. If your business is interested in becoming employee-owned, you can contact Baxi Partnership on 0845 680 6702, email or visit their website to find out more.
